Books to read after watching Bridgerton
Anyone else struggling to move on after Bridgerton season three? What do we read while waiting for season four?
So I’m obsessed with Bridgerton. I watched season three with a friend; it was a lot of fun. But now I have a gap in my life, and I’m looking for books to read after watching Bridgerton.
I’ve already read the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn, the prequel series, and the companion Smythe-Smith series. I told you, I am obsessed.
Today I thought I would share the recommendations for Regency romance books that I’ve had and books I’ve read and enjoyed.
Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore
The first book recommended to me after I finished reading the Bridgerton series was Bringing Down the Duke. This book is set in the late 1800s, as opposed to the early 1800s. It follows Annabelle, a feminist spinster desperate to educate herself and break free of her cousin and his hopes of turning her into a servant. She ends up bumping into a Duke whilst campaigning with suffragettes and an unexpected romance ensues.
The Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas
I don’t know much about The Devil in Winter but it’s always on the list. The story follows Evie and Sebastian; she’s a romantic virgin and he’s a rake of the first degree. They end up in a marriage of convenience and she tells him the only way he’ll be able to enter her bed is if he can stay celibate for a year. But then a horrible character from her past returns and Sebastian’s focus is less on his marriage bed and more on protecting his wife.
To Love and to Loathe by Martha Waters
A regency take on the enemies-to-lovers trope – perfect for fans of series 2 of Bridgerton on Netflix. This book is the first in a series, and there is a difference to your typical Regency romance tropes. She’s a widow and he is a rake, but he’s a rake with a bad reputation… in bed. She wants to take a lover and he needs all the help he can get. However, they can’t stand each other; they decide to put bygones aside for a short time to help each other out. But of course, things don’t go to plan.
Reputation by Lex Croucher
Another modern millennial take on a regency romance. Reputation is classed as Mean Girls meets Bridgerton and it’s a true depiction! There’s romance, bitchiness, gossip, rakes and so much more. . .
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
The ultimate romance classic and the perfect salve for a post-Bridgerton binge burn.
Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare
And finally, Romancing the Duke is a book for those readers who always sympathise with Charlotte in Pride and Prejudice. The main character is a 26-year-old spinster desperate to get married, after giving up on love. But then comes the Duke . . .
