Choosing the right Amazon Categories for your books
When it comes to selling your book on Amazon, whether it’s a page-turning thriller or a historical guide, the categories you choose can dramatically affect your visibility, discoverability, and ultimately, your sales. If you’re publishing through Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), understanding how to work the category system to your advantage is one of the smartest marketing moves you can make.
You get more than one shot at it
Amazon allows you to choose up to three categories per format. That’s three for your eBook and another three for your paperback. These categories don’t always match exactly, which gives you more flexibility and more chances to be seen.
Top tip: Treat your eBook and paperback categories as experiments. Try different combinations to test what gets traction faster.
